JUNIORS

October
Take PSAT

February
Meet individually with college counselor to discuss college preferences; begin researching colleges on initial list
Begin planning how to make good use of the summer months

March
Visit college campuses over Spring Break
Prepare for the May SAT

April
Come to the Parents Weekend meeting with college counselor
Continue working on SAT preparation

May
Make college visit plans for the summer
Take SAT at Darrow School

June - August
Take SAT II when advised
Visit college campuses

Begin preparing college essays
 

SENIORS

September
Meet College Counselor to go over the application process
Meet individually with college counselor to develop 12th-grade list of schools
Register for SAT I; register for ACT
Obtain all necessary applications and supplementary applications; begin completion of common application
Check on requirements for each college (deadlines, fee, portfolio, interview, SATs, etc.)
Plan visits with parents to college campuses during October Break

October
Prepare final drafts of college essays

Ask teachers to write recommendations
Arrange to take the TOEFL (international students)
Attend local college fair when available
Visit colleges during October Break

Take ACT exam

November
Take SAT I at Darrow School
Complete college essays
Complete early-decision applications and supporting materials
Follow up on teacher recommendations
Visit colleges during Thanksgiving Break as necessary

Send applications with January deadlines
Take SAT II if needed
Complete supporting materials such as portfolios, audition tapes, and supplements
