Congratulations
to Elizabeth Adams of West Hatfield, MA, our valedictorian, and Katelin Smith
of Latham, NY, our salutatorian, of the Class of 2009! These exceptional
students have earned Darrow's top two academic honors, and will be recognized
at Baccalaureate on Friday, June 5, and Commencement on Saturday, June 6.
The
daughter of Nelson Adams and Shawn Redmond Adams '72, Elizabeth has
consistently earned High Honors during her Darrow career. She is an especially
active member of the Darrow community, serving as a resident assistant in Meacham,
an ambassador for the School's Admission Office, a Core Leader, a music
department prefect, and a performer in a variety of musical and theatrical
productions. A talented singer and guitarist, Elizabeth has helped to
organize the student-run live performance series, Coffeehouse. She has also
been a key member of the Darrow Cross-Country and Ultimate Frisbee teams. Elizabeth was accepted
to four universities, including one with a leadership scholarship, and has
chosen the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, where she
will major in English.
Katelin
is the daughter of Marcia and J. Eric Smith. An outstanding student of math and
English, she recently completed an independent study in advanced calculus, a
course usually reserved for college students. She has performed in several
school plays and participated in Darrow's Alpine program and on the Ultimate
Frisbee team. Katelin is an exemplary student leader, serving as an ambassador
for the Admission Office, a Core Leader, a resident assistant for Meacham, and
an activities prefect. She was accepted to seven universities, and in
September, she will enroll in the State University of New York-Geneseo.
Great
work, Elizabeth and Katelin! We're looking forward to all your future
successes!
Excitement surrounds the
learning experience at Darrow—in the classroom, in the laboratory, and
in the studio. The atmosphere in and out of the classroom supports the
pursuit of intellectual curiosity, individual creativity, and the joy
of learning for its own sake. Teachers use real-world topics and a
hands-on approach to capture the imagination and make the subject
matter come alive.
